There will be a part four!

Very odd shoot. When shooting the photos I thought I would have enough material for 2-4 photos and now I find it hard to quit editing these.

There about a 100 billion pics shot in a window frame and I wasn’t able to avoid this cliche nore did I execute the shot perfectly. We survive to try another day.

Lighting wise I would have want to do it totally different but I was traveling very light (camera bag and a small light kit with soft box and umbrella only) and I did not have all the gear I would have needed wanted for. Actually the way I would have wanted to do this shot would have required gear that I don’t even own.

I would love to go out in a studio full with scrims, mirrors, different reflectors and endles “grip.”  Do something else than softboxes, dishes and so on. Funny though because I haven’t seen that kind of a studio ever. Rental gear is usually the same that people with their own studio spaces use. I might be odd when it comes to light.

Well anyways, one can always dream.

Emmi with the lace eyes

The picture was suppose to be a secondary edit but it ended up so cool that I had to post it up here also.

As always when I collaborate with a makeup artist or a stylist I give them free hands to do what ever they want. I know that not all the photogs do this but I feel that if I don’t pay for their work then they aren’t there to work for me but to work for themselves.  Camilla had found online this makeup tutorial about lace eyes and wanted to do something similar.

Actually we weren’t suppose to shoot anything like this. We were suppose to be outside shooting harsh light b&w images with high contrast. But that idea went out of the door with weather (-10 Celsius) and with the fact that Camilla’s flat was just so cool place to shoot.

Jurmo

What the hell! Landscape photography!? Have I gone mad?

Most likely I have.

I have been shooting quite a lot lately but most of the stuff I can’t / wouldn’t show here on the blog – never.

I am not much a landscape shooter but my point here is not the pictures. I am not posting these pictures up here because I think they are any good. I post them because they are different, strange and most importantly shot out of my comfort zone!

Here is the story. Somehow I got unquieted with couple of “photo artist” online. Couple of dudes who have nothing in common except bad taste in music and odd sense of humor. Long story short the guys where organizing a field trip to Jurmo. (A small island in front of Turku.) I singed up for the trip and forgot all about it until I had to cancel a fashion shoot in Lahti to join the fellows. Most of the guys I’ve never met before. Only one

No why would I do that? Exghange something I really enjoy (nice, warm fashion shoot in the studio) to something I know nothing about (two days of landscapes in the cold breeze). It just might end up being a very cold weekend in a very small cottage with four men who I don’t like me at all!

Actually I don’t really understand at all why I did it. But I am clad I did. It was different in so many ways. No planning what to shoot and when. Just go out and shoot, wonder around and come back to the cottage when you don’t feel your face any more. I had two goals.

One was to make a flash photograph. (1.picture) The goal was set after I noticed I was dragging the elinchrom light stand bag to  a place where I could not get anyone to sit in for a portrait without risk on having the light stand up in my you know where after the soot.

Second goal was to shoot ONE single picture I like my self. It does not have to up on a wall. No one else has to like but I have to!

If I would have cancelled the Jurmo trip and went off to Lahti I would have stayed the same. Now I am traumatized for life. Just kidding – I had a blast!

The whole gallery can be seen here.
