Slowly but surely I’m going through the pictures. On weddings the portraits are my strongest area and I try get as much time to shoot them as possible and in the editing phase they naturally get more attention. After all these are the photos that end up on the shelf and in the thank you cards.
Suvi and Ilkka’s wedding were elegant but different. Funny because I am having hard time to say why they were different but just felt like it. Maybe because there was no queue of people to say “congratulation” or no games to let anyone know who is who and so forth. The time I spend there it was very subtle, very elegant. And I liked it! I did not have to try shoot things that never make good pictures instead of I could go on to balcony and get shots I usually never could have done because I would be there next to the couple trying to shoot from back of the row. Or better yet to actually build up lighting and use Elinchrom instead of small sb-units again something I never have time to normally. (Yes those pics needed bigger lights)
The portrait session was a blast to do. I had scouted the area the previous day and had some ideas to what to shoot and where. Of course some hickups came along but then again something comes always into replace the shots you just can not have. The pic above is one of those shots that just come into play and pic under was more planned shot done in ten frames or so. We shot for about and hour and got plenty of pictures to go with.
-for some reason I really like b/w on these although the couple will get color versions also -

Friends of mine got married last month and I agreed to shoot some pictures for them. The next morning I thought I shot a lot but it looked liked I put the camera down after the twelfth beer or so. How do I know that? The last pictures were from the dance floor and I don’t think I would have stepped on it with out little encouragement.
The party was great and the band kept everyone on their feet for good part of the evening.

I’ve been sitting on these for a month now. I just don’t seem to get anything done with the computer.I am just as excited about shoots but the post processing has been a drag for couple of months now. I don’t really know why because I use to love it. Perhaps I am just bored with the way I shoot and do the pictures. Could be – I really don’t know.
I hope you all like the pictures because I am not shooting too many wedding this year for number of reasons – I think I have to blog about that separately.

To be honest I do not know did Olesya take Max’s last name but “the Hellmanns” just sound cool. The venue was this old mansion in Helsinki. I was there early and roamed around with a camera doing location scouting. Its always good to be ready to shoot with clear ideas when the couple arrives because most likely they are slightly behind schedule and every minute that the photog can save for them is big pluss.
The photo above was something that popped into my head as soon as I saw the tree. We could not do the shot though because it rained in the morning and the grass was wet and the ground muddy. No way the bride will go along her day with greenish shows and dirt on the gown. So we waited until the ground dried and the official part of the party was over.
When Max and Olesya arrived she was ready to go but Max was wearing a Sentenced t-shirt. Time to do bridal portraits.

I was setting the couple up for the portrait and Olesya grind at Max and said to me she wanted a picture of Max standing right there. The picture turned out to be of my favs of the day.
The pose in the picture beneath is most likely one of the most used and most clise poses that the couple can do but I do not care I still like it. It always work. I was already packing up and said to the groom too bad there is no really ugly background to shoot against. Max told me about a graffiti wall hundred meters down the path. No a triumph to my location scouting as I walked just 10 meter shy from the wall.
And of course Olesya with Max’s hat. Again one of those moments when a photog should slap himself ‘why did not I think of that!?’” It was Olesya’s idea and the last shot of the day for me.

Max emailed me and asked if was available to shoot their wedding at the end of May. Before the wedding they hoped to meet me to dicuss some ideas and general plans for the day. I figured why not shoot some pictures as well.
Lovely couple and I can’t wait for the actual wedding.
