Killer From the Archive

Few frames from a fellow shooter online got me thinking about TenDeadInChinaTown photos we did in june.

Some fotosession leave leftovers which are images that should have been done but did not get to photoshop. Usualy I come empty on my tours to the archive but this time the trip was worth doing. ONE and I do mean single one image was there waiting to be noticed.

I haven’t shot anything in a while now, so I’m flipping through the archives to find something to photoshop. Maiju has been infront of the lens numerous times and she never fails. I fail, but thats a different story.

We had to shoot twice for the enthusiest series. This simple portrait is from the second shoot and was left to the archives to rot. I like it because its straight up, no bullshit, simple as it gets- portrait.

Hopefully nest time I’ll be shooting on the 10th of october.. untill then, see ya!

My Beloved Flare

Flare as it is of coure is a mistake, a flaw. You should know how to use the flags but sometimes its more fun to leave them in the bag. Or even worse: point your flashes directly to the lens. You never know what you’ll get but it kicks the living shit out of photoshop flare.

Maiju was briefly in town for a dance lessons and was kind enough to squeeze in an hour of modeling. Thanks, I really appreciate it because I haven’t had anyting to shoot lately. By the way, looking at her bruices, dancing is a very painfull hobby!

Utterly dissapointed, complitely discouraged and filled with apathy I walked away from the first dacer-shoot. ..Hold on I was not filled with apathy, I was filled with anger. F.. it, I will take this on again. Next time I’ll do it the way I know best.

Luckily Maiju was heading back to Kotka the very next weekend.

“Cool, reshoot?”

“Okay…”

“Hell yea!!!”

I thought: to hell with the ambient, I can’t do shit with it now, so I will drag the strobes. I will kill the ambient, I will spot the cool shoes, I’ll do it the way I know and the way I am most comfortable with.

Almost.. Like a proved idiot I sold my radiotriggers before I got the new ones. Thus I had only the Nikon CLS system and the sb800/600 combo to go with. What it meant was I did not have a rim light. Sure I could use the main and the rim but the folks at the dancestudio move were so excited about their new cool MoonShoes. I had to put a grided sb on them.

Had a new assistant to work with, Iina. She has more talent behind the camera than I ever had and I do hope that she picked up a spark for lighting. No telling where she would take her photography with an ezybox and “manual mode level” understanding of the camera-flash combination..

As I already mentioned numerous times I almost blew the dancer portrait shoot thoroughly. Maiju had a some suggestions that worked seamlesly with the orginal consept. One of them was this pose.

I would have never thought this. Now Im sic to my stomach that I did not bring the strobes out to this one! It would have been a killer shot with a better light. Just another example how photogs fail..
