The last shots from our Porvoo shootfest. Janne had a comment on his blog where someone was asking  where she could get in to modeling in porvoo. Ouh my, did we do that much damage? Yes we did, because we were awsome, had time of our live and made plenty of pictures.

Now, if  Janinas (the first 2 pics) facebook profile pic does not change after these images I feel like I’ve failed.

The last pic is difficult for me. Not the lighting (the source is not big enough, I know) but the crop. The picture is not 100% what I wanted it to be. I had this vision, this amazing idea but I had to vhurry and got 7 frames of Krista on the bench and its not quite there..

This happens when you are a photographer and  can’t always get the images you want and just have to roll with it.

This blog post is for  the dancers so I’ll write in finnish.

The pics are from the Dancestudio Moves Spring show. The evening show only. There is way too many pictures in the gallery but keep in mind that this is for the dancers.

Kyminsuu-teatteri oli täynnä launtai iltana ja voin vain olettaa, että se johtui filtterin mainoskampaniasta. (Tiedän jopa yhden ihmisen, joka ei tullut katsomoon, koska ei nähnyt mainosta. Mitäs ei lue maailman parasta valokuvablogia.)

En nyt ihan muista, kuinka mones kevät-tai joulunäytös tämä minulle oli, mutta sitä suurinpiirtein osaa odottaa ketkä tanssivat yhtä täydellisesti kuin allekirjoittanut. En niinkään odota niitä joiden tiedän tanssivan hyvin vaan niitä, joiden otteissa näkyy eniten kehitystä. Kameran läpi näkee ihmeitä…

Ilokseni sain taasen todeta, ettei kukaan polje paikallaan vaan liikkeisiin tulee enemmän ja enemmän meininkiä.  Stipendien ulkopuolelle jäi muutama todella kova kandidaatti – ainakin minun silmissä. Oikeasti en mitään tiedä mistään vaikka olenkin 3-levelin sheikkaaja! Level 3 = parempi kuin Michael Jackson!

Kuvia on galleriassa taas liikaa (250). Mutta nämä galleriat eivät ole tehty kenelle tahansa katsojalle, vaan tanssijoille. Yritin kuvata jokaisesta 19:sta tanssista jotain ja sitä myöten ruutuja tulee. Vinkki niille, jotka eivät näy kunnolla kuvissa, mutta haluaisivat. Pois sieltä takarivistä!

Pitäisi rakentaa joku portfolio näistä. 10-20 parasta tanssi fotoa yhteen mestaan ja vähän enemmän käsitettelyä kuin normaalisti voin näille tehdä.

Nikons CLS system is something to die for.

There is SB800 and SB600 in the frame on both sides of the stage.  The place is so dark that four sb800 could easily overpower the available darkness and light the whole stage with 1/16 power or even less.

Clearly the 2 flashes (in the pic) aren’t high enough to light the whole stage evenly and they are crossed. So what are they doing? Providing  a very low power fill light and clearing up some some colors/shadows on front of stage – nothing more. The flashes are aimed almost to each other to feather the beam.

Both flashes are set to 1/128 power and trigered with the popup. Which is nice concidering the distance: I was on the very top row. Popup is ok but has a draw back. Its a freaking popup! Even with minimum power setting (–) it does not recycle quick enough for quick bursts. It takes from 0.5-1  seconds to recycle. And if you fire two very quickly you have to wait longer.

Good thing about this setup was that I could just kill the popup and I would not have to change any other settings in the camera. I’ll just loose some detail in the frame.

Friday night turned out to very laid back and easy going,nothing to do and it felt like sunday. Saturday was complite opposite! New faces, new things, new tricks and moves.. Just great!

Recently I walked up to this group of exchange students at my livingroom (pub jaakko.) Trying to appear sober as possible and simply told them I want to take pictures of anyone who says yes.  Finnish people aren’t usualy thrilled about being photosubjects , but luckily this is only our own bad habbit. Masha was not even in the growd at the time, but she emailed me and we arranged a photosession. She was amazing poser and my job was just to hold the camera still..

After the saturdays photosession I had a danceclass! Thats right, me dancing! I was like asphalt roller, rolling on my belly on the floor. Its was dangerous, but we brave ones survived it with minor bruses. The brave ones equals eight out of a twnty  something invited..

Girls at dancestudio move arranged this for as.  As most of my models are dancers I got invited. Last time I was too hangover, but nothing was in my way this time . ..And you know.. Fuck Michael Jackson, I’m the new king of moonwalk! (yeah right) Afterparty was something to dance for and at the morning  I had pain in my muscles that I did not know excisted. It was fun and a eye opening event. Appreciation for their skills went through the roof. I can play prettymuch any ballgame out there, but I can’t “hit with my chest..” By the way their christmas show is worth seeing! Its usualy in the middle of december. Been there, twice and enjoyed it..
