DIY- grid for EzyBox

Published by jussi under this and that

Grids for bigger softboxes cost a shitload of money, but they offer amethod of control which is very important.

This here is a DIY- grid  made  of black cardboard for the lastolite ezybox. It does not look much but it did not cost anything either  (3-4e.) How hard it is to mesure 5cm gaps and cut to halfway, anyways?

Couple of big disadvantages. 1) Its made of cardboard, it will not handle moisture very well and the life expectency is not too high. 2) Its not difficult to make, but it is no snoot either – I would not want to break it or leave it to location. 3) No way it will travel easily. The grid-contructure holds it shape pretty good so it woun’t collapse – its also a good thing because it will just taped to the ezybox and not suspended with velcra like real grids.

One advantage: It did not cost anything! If I like the look that it brings to the photos I’ll make a better one or buy one and fit it to ezy..

Distracted

Published by jussi under images

While writing the thesis I’ve been forced to read a THICK book by Micheal E. Porter about economic and why some some countries are better in some industries than others.  Suprinsingly Ive enjoyd it but its hard to concentrate on the thesis when I’m aplying the ideas and systems into photography… and I dont even do this for a living.

After hours and hours reading, taking notes and kicking up ideas I picked up a knife and poked some wholes in cardboard to relief frustrataion. Well not exactly. Idea was to experiment with shadows and how soft / sharp they would be within close range. (Light -object – background.) I had nothing to shoot so I pulled yet another parfume bottle.

Product Quickies

Published by jussi under images

I can spend 10 hours shooting people, but I get bored in less then ten minutes when taking pictures of not so lively objects.

This one needed 7 frames. The most time consuming part of the whole session was the waiting of the surface blurr filtter.

SB800 with diy-grid and A4-paper as fill light.

Published by jussi under this and that

A week ago a placed a order to Nikon Nordic and today the UPS deliverd. Mind you that the there is not everything in the pic. Couple of bodies and lenses ….

-

Jeah right. just kidding. Kotkas Photographic center arranged a Nikon demo day. A spokesman from Nikon Nordic held a quick presentation about their lineup and D300s and D3s in detail. Afterwards there was loads of gear to fidle with. Thanks.. My D200 is in a decompose condition but I don’t have enough money for a new body.
